Measuring does not have to be done by a professional installer.
The technique shown here is used by our installers when measuring for our local customers.
Important: Only use a metal tape measure! Don't use a cloth tape
1. measure across the window opening from left to right at the top, the middle, then the bottom
2. take the shortest measurement to nearest 1/8th of an inch and record that as your "width"
3. measure from top to bottom on the left side , middle and right side
4. take the longest measurement to the nearest 1/8th of an inch and record that as "Height"
Note: It is important to measure to the nearest 1/8th of an inch.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The factory will automatically deduct approximately 1/4" from either side of inside
mount blinds to keep the blind from
rubbing the sides of the window opening.
Windows (outside mount)Outside mount is used when inside mount is not an option. Outside mounted blinds have no deductions it will be the exact measurements that you enter. If the window has trim around it one option is to measure from the outside on the left side window trim to the outside on the right side window trim. 1. Measure top, middle, and bottom use the widest measurement. Remember to measure to the nearest 1/8th of an inch. This would be your width measurement. If you are mounting onto a molding or window frame you may want to use the top measure to insure a good mounting surface on the frame and not hang ofer the side 2. For the length measurement measure from the top of the top window frame to the bottom of the bottom window frame. Measure left, middle, and right and use the longest measurement. Again these measurements are exact measurement to the nearest 1/8th of an inch of the entire blind including the head rail. Doors (outside mount)Measuring for doors is a little different. Since the blind will not fit inside the window frame you have the freedom of deciding how wide and how long you want it.
Typically, a couple inches wider than the window is fine for the width. The head rail at the top of the blind occupies about 2-1/4" of space and the bottom rail with
hold-down occupies about 1" so add 2-1/4" to the length for an exact fit. Also, make sure that the blind will not interfere with the door handle. All of our blinds
come with a wood valance and optional free hold down brackets so the blind will not bounce off the door when you open and close it. Many doors have a trim
around the glass that may stick out ½ inch to 1 inch. Free spacers are available for this purpose.
